Our roots

Our apartments are named after three of the thirteen Fanes women. Our family roots go back to the legendary Fanes region in the Dolomites of South Tyrol – we wanted to build a bridge to this.

The Fanessagen are stories from a time before time and from a place before the place they name. They tell the same story that all stories tell: they tell of becoming and passing away, of earth, water, wind and fire… It is mythical material that probably dates back to the time of matriarchy.
(from: Anita Pichler, Markus Vallazza: Die Frauen aus Fanis. Haymon Verlag 1992)

Who are these Fanes women?

They are goddesses, queens, grandmothers, mothers and daughters –
magically interwoven with the wild nature of the mountains.

Donna Kelina

“I am Donna Kelina, the eagle woman, the goddess of these mountains. Every day I bathe in the blue, in the glow of the Rayeta, when Tanna wears it on her forehead. Welcome, I have been expecting you. For only one can climb this rock face, that is Cian Bolpin, the son of the sun. I will take him as my beloved.”

Donna Moltina

Moltina grew up as a foster child with the water woman and the marmots. She learnt their language, was able to take on their form and grew up in freedom to become a beautiful fairy. She is the founding queen of the kingdom of Fanes.

Donna Dolasilla

She is the last of the Fanes queens. In the course of history, she became a warrior, an Amazon, but was unable to prevent the downfall of the Fanes kingdom.
